11/8 - finally, a pc
hi everyone!
hope you all are having an excellent august. i know i am for sure, because after many, many years of contemplation, consideration, and a whole lot of uncertainty, i finally have my own pc!
i have spent the past seven/eight years working digitally from surfaces that were smaller than or approximately the size of a magazine cover. my very first tablet was a screenless wacom intuit that i bought in 2015, and it was about ten inches diagonal. in 2019, i was due for a new laptop since my old one had begun to break, and i moved to a thirteen inch surface pro 6, which is what i’ve been using for my digital work the past four years. since then, however, it has begun to slow down, which was not good for some of the bigger pieces i needed to make. while it’s true i could’ve gotten the parts replaced or repaired, i’d been thinking about getting a pc for years since it would simply be better for my line of work, and i felt i was getting to a level of artistic skill that i believe warranted some excellent quality tools. with some assistance from friends and my father, i bought the parts and built the pc myself this past week—big tablet included! while i am currently waiting on one more piece, it’s not a necessary piece for the pc to run right now, but it will be necessary to run a dual-screen setup with my tablet screen and normal desktop monitor. from these hints, can you guess what piece is missing?
i’m so, so, so excited to finally have these tools in my hands. on top of art, this pc can also run video games super well now, which is super exciting because i’m a big video game nerd. for any and all interested, here are a few of the computer’s specs:
case: corsair 4000d airflow tempered glass mid-tower atx case
motherboard: gigabyte z790 aero g
cpu: intel i7 127000k
power supply: corsair rt1000e
tablet: huion kamvas pro 24 (4k)
os: windows 11 home
i’m using my older monitor and mouse for normal computer activities. as much as i’d love to invest in some more new high quality stuff, i am not an infinite money pit, and i still need to find a stable source of income (as well as hold onto my savings) for post-university life. i also made the choice not to purchase speakers because i probably wouldn’t use them too much, and i have some headphones i can use anyways. but man, it was super tempting to just say, “fuck it, we buy,” and get a bunch of unnecessary new things.
that’s really all though! i’m super excited to make more art now. i will definitely have to make sure antigone and oliver (the cats) do not eat anything important while the pc is home with me.
excuse the photo quality, but seriously, look at all those wires! i’ll have to do some serious cable management soon…
hope you all have an excellent rest of your summer. please stay cool and drink lots of water! much love.
